In the lab, we use multiple electrophysiological approaches to study the human brain. We perform commonly used MEG (magnetoencephalography) and EEG (electroencephalography) recordings to study the synchronized activity of cortical neuronal populations. We also investigate the function of deeper cortical and subcortical areas using intracranial recordings (sEEG) performed in patients suffering from severe and treatment-resistant neurological and psychiatric conditions. MEG and sEEG recordings are eventually performed simultaneously, allowing to study the coherence between cortical and subcortical brain areas. Finally, we are also currently setting up the technique of fast-scan voltammetry to measure, in human patients, the concentration of various neurotransmitters (dopamine, serotonin and noradrenaline) with high spatial and temporal resolutions.
